Welcome to the MTAQ Website. Our Association is a professional body for instrumental and voice music teachers founded in 1921. We represent members in Queensland and are dedicated to promoting excellence in music teaching. Members benefit from our close association with similar organisations, examination bodies and tertiary institutions.

The MTAQ, founded in 1921, is a professional body representing almost 500 members throughout Queensland. Amongst many other things, it aims to promote a high standard of music teaching in the state. The Association enjoys a close liaison with examination bodies, tertiary institutions and other similar Associations both nationally and internationally. Constantly endeavouring to elevate the professionalism of the Association and its Members, MTAQ provides opportunities for ongoing professional development and a platform for teacher development through master classes, pre-diploma performances and showcase recitals. Major events such as the Queensland Piano Competition and Queensland Vocal Competition occur annually, as well as the Alan Lane Memorial Professional Development Weekend.

The Association's Brisbane office at Taringa features an air-conditioned Auditorium with kitchenette facilities, a reference library and a grand piano. The auditorium may be hired by the public as well as at a reduced rate to members. The MTAQ has sourced high quality Public Liability Insurance, which is available to all members only. It also provides a referral service to the community for well-qualified teachers via the website, as well as by phone.

The journal "Bravura" and this website keep members and the general public in touch with aspects of the profession, the latest pedagogy and performance and professional development events.

Our office hours are:
