Introducing Geoffrey Ashenden B. Mus (perf) Hons, Grad Dip Ed, Sec
Geoffrey Ashenden's music training includes a Bachelor of Music (Performance) Honours Degree in Pianoforte from the University of Adelaide where he was also awarded the Elder Scholarship for Voice, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the South Australian College of Advanced Education. He has taught Secondary School music in both Adelaide and Brisbane. During this time he also studied voice and has pursued a career as a singer having performed solo roles with opera companies and orchestras in Australia and studied and performed overseas. Geoffrey regularly comperes concerts and has presented pre-performance talks for Opera Qld. He was a sessional voice teacher at QUT Kelvin Grove from 2002 to 2008, Assistant Musical Director of the Stage & Screen Summer Schools at QUT Gardens Point from 2004 to 2007, a sessional voice teacher of classical voice in the Qld Conservatorium's Young Con Programme in 2010, and is currently engaged as a member of the sessional staff teaching voice in the Qld Conservatorium's Music Theatre degree. He operates a busy private practice as a piano and voice teacher, is in demand as an adjudicator of piano, voice and choral competitions throughout Qld and is an AMEB examiner of singing. He is the Immediate Past President of the Qld Chapter Committee and a National Councillor of The Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS) and a member of the core committee for the International Congress of Voice Teachers (ICVT) for 2013. He is committed to encouraging and mentoring young musicians and teachers.
